Western Desert Campaign, the Desert War, took place in the deserts of Egypt and Libya
Western Desert Campaign, the Desert War, took place in the deserts of Egypt and Libya and was the main theatre in the North African campaign of the Second World War.
South African troops have captured a Spanair German light machine gun with plenty of ammunition. They used it as an anti aircraft gun and almost immediately shot down an ME 110 plane. The tail end of the plane was turned into mounting for the same gun.
Picture shows: the gun on its novel mounting with South African soldiers manning it and shooting at enemy planes that fly over the Aroma region of LibyaA.
