In one of the most daring strikes during war, in the teeth of the in the enemy s.powerful shore defences, a strong force of Beaufighters made up from strike Wings of the RaF, RNZAF and RAF operating under RAF Coastal Command attacked an enemy convoy in the narrow anchorage of Den Helder in the North Sea off the Dutch Coast.
In the face of intense flak from coastal batteries
of Texel, the Beaufighters carried straight through the flak
and severely damaged a half completed destroyer and
left five other ships on fire.
