In a daylight raid on 3rd January 1943, Flying Fortresses and Liberator bombers of the US Army Air Force based in Britain, carried out a heavy attack on the port of St. Nazaire in France.
Picture taken shortly after the attack shows damage among the railway tracks. There are 16 craters, varying in size between approximately 50 ft.and 25 ft and a number of trucks have- been destroyed or damaged.
The goods station has suffered from
blast and smoke still rises from some of the sheds
near the station.
