The Canadian Commandos captured this 230 ton vessel in their raid on Dieppe
The Canadian Commandos captured this 230 ton vessel in their raid on Dieppe and brought it to Britain where already it has done valuable service with the Navy. Now it has been handed over to the National Fire Service who have equipped the ship for fighting fires at sea. Manned entirely by NFS personnel, she is equipped to stay at sea for as long as four weeks, and is capable of pumping twenty tons of water a minute. Shortly she is going into service around the coast line of Britain, fighting fires on river banks, gibing aid to land unit and going to the aid of ships at sea. The first ship of its kind, she is used for peace time fire fighting to, which takes the NFS well and truly into the firing line, although they are, in this case, a non-combatant service.
