Hangers on Kure Airfield on Kyushu, southernmost of the islands of Japan
Hangers on Kure Airfield on Kyushu, southernmost of the islands of Japan, burn during an attack by American Navy and marine carrier based planes.
Besides damaging many of the Japanese planes parked on the runways, the attackers shot down 50 more at the cost of three US fighters. The bombing was preceded by an attack on heavy units of the Japanese fleet sheltered in the Inland sea to the north, in which 15 to 17 warships were damaged.
