People of Guernsey and Sark receive their first British provisions since 1940

People of Guernsey and Sark receive their first British provisions since 1940. After the successful Allied D-day landings in Northern France, all German supplied food ceased too, and the Germans at once started to kill off livestock and eat the islanders seed potatoes. Vegetables became more and more scarce.
In Guernsey a communal feeding centre was established to which everyone brought whatever they could. Soup was made in bathtubs and sold at seven and a half pence.
Picture shows: Mrs A J Bell of Mount Arrive, Guernsey, shows off a basket of food stuffs.
