Fisher Bendix Factory, Kirkby, workers vote overwhelmingly to carry on their occupation
Fisher Bendix Factory, Kirkby, workers vote overwhelmingly to carry on their occupation of the premises, Friday 7th January 1972.
1961 Fisher and Ludlow moved their domestic appliance division to a purpose-made factory at Kirkby making Bendix washing machines, Fisholow stainless steel sinks and pressed steel radiators. The Kirkby factory could employ 3, 000 workers.
By the mid-1970s five owners had not made a trading profit from the factory.
In 1974 Kirby Manufacturing and Engineering was established with a government grant to run the factory as a workers cooperative
