On the 12th May 1919 the Daily Mirror introduced its readers to the adventures of Pip and Squeak. Within nine months Pip the dog and penguin Squeak were joined by a rabbit called Wilfred. The dog, the penguin and the rabbit were to become firm favourites with the Mirror readership. It was conceived by Bertram Lamb, and was drawn until circa 1939 by Austin Bowen Payne.
