Three one-armed bandits which have been marooned for a weekend at Clevedon, Somerset
Three one-armed bandits which have been marooned for a weekend at Clevedon, Somerset, were rescued by boat. But four other slot machines had to be left behind when choppy seas made the operation too dangerous. Piermaster Bernard Faraway, aged 50, led the rescue operation. The pier head was cut off from the mainland a week ago when a 200ft section of the pier collapsed during safety tests. A survey ordered by Clevedon Councils being carried out to decide whether to repair or demolish the 1000ft long pier. Bernard is pictured with Roy Lovelock and Bill Cooke. 23rd October 1970
