Colliery worker Spence Skillet Richardson has lived in Tenth Row

Colliery worker Spence Skillet Richardson has lived in Tenth Row, Ashington for more than 50 years. He was not the first person to find a house there, but he will certainly be the last to leave. For Mr Richardson, aged 63, is the only person left in the derelict row, which stands in the shadow of Ashington Colliery. The reason he is still there after his neighbours left six months ago is that he wants a replacement two bedroom house and its proving hard to get. 19th January 1977
