Opening ceremony, Variety Playground, Arnold Estate, Bermondsey, South East London
Opening ceremony, Variety Playground, Arnold Estate, Bermondsey, South East London, Wednesday 3rd October 1951.
Our picture shows... actress Simone Silva helps a child into a swing after the opening.
The playground has been built with the proceeds of a midnight matinee staged by The Variety Club of Great Britain in September 1949. The club used the 6, 000 they raised to help to keep little Londoners away from the dangers of street games.
The playground has been built on what was a bombed site at Arnold Estate in Bermondsey
