The famous " Dam Busters" raid by Royal Air Force No. 617 Squadron on the Mohne, Eder and Sorpe Dams in the Ruhr Valley, Germany, using a specially developed " bouncing bomb" invented and developed by Barnes Wallis.
The raids were carried out on the night of 16th -17th May 1943 and caused causing catastrophic flooding of the Ruhr valley and of villages in the Eder valley.
This picture shows the damage at Froendenberg-Boesperd, thirteen miles from the Moehne Dam.
