Gerald Durrell was a British naturalist, zookeeper, conservationist, author and television presenter. He founded what are now called the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and the Durrell Wildlife Park on the Channel Island of Jersey in 1959.
Mrs Durrell said " It was thrilling going on safari in the jungle and having looked after the animals ever since I have grown quite fond of them. But they don t leave me much time for housework I m afraid"
