The vicar walked towards the gipsy camp in the wood. When he got level with the leading
The vicar walked towards the gipsy camp in the wood. When he got level with the leading caravan, he called out: " I m the" local parson. I just happened to be passing, and I wondered whether there was anything I could do to help." A few days later a message-was delivered to the rambling stone vicarage at Eridge Green, Sussex, it said : " Some of the gipsies in the wood would like to be baptised." So the vicar, the Rev. John Stuart Yorke, brought out his old car. Into the back he put a folding table, an altar cloth, a small cross, and a portable font. When he arrived at the forest he set up a small altar against a background of caravans, Then he baptised three Smiths, three Bakers, two Jameses and four Joneses, eleven children and one grown-up. The youngest was Jimmy Smith, seen in the vicars arms. Jimmy was born six weeks ago. 27th April 1955
