A few of the 300 Scottish hunger marchers seen here having a meal before setting off again from Manchester for London The Scottish contingent of the national hunger march set off from Glasgow at the end of September, with the 300 Scots being led by the NUWM (National Unemployed Workers Movement) Scottish organiser, Harry McShane. Police harassed the demonstrators during their march to London and this police violence strengthened the resolve of the movement, and by the time the marchers reached London they had gathered 1 million signatures on their petition against the means test and benefit cuts. 12th October 1932
