Geoff Hurst scored the goal. Argentina captain Antonio Rattin was sent off but refused to leave the field for ten minutes and sat down on the red carpet.
After the match England manager Alf Ramsey was incensed by the style of play the Argentines used, labelling them " animals" and refusing to let his players swap shirts with them.
