Workers are Honoured in glass, Mrs. Mopp has been given a place of honour in a new church
Workers are Honoured in glass, Mrs. Mopp has been given a place of honour in a new church, for one of the churchs stained glass windows shows office cleaners at work.
It is a series of windows - featuring jobs carried out in the parish - which will be dedicated on Thursday (20-4-61) at Christchurch, Blackfriars, London, by Dr. Mervyn Stockwood, the Bishop of Southwark.
Other windows in the nave of the church include a housewife with her children, an office boss dictating to a secretary, building workers, bakers, river lighterman, printers, a hop merchant and an engineering worker with a drill. The Rector, the Rev. Alan Weaver, who was once a coal miner, said: " The idea of the windows is to show the theme Work and Worship." the church, which was built to replace one bombed during World Ward II, was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh in February, 1960.
All the windows were designed by artist F.W. Cole, of Exeter.
