Lance corporal Paddy was promoted Sgt. Paddy, when he was collected
Lance corporal Paddy was promoted Sgt. Paddy, when he was collected from quarantine at Hackbridge Kennels, in Surrey. The first Battalion the Royal Ulster Rifles has no official mascot, but on the unofficial strength there is an animal described as a shirt-haired low slung, disproportionately long dog with an equally lengthy tail, named Paddy. This dog enlisted in Cyrpus in 1958 while the Battalion was on operations there. He earned his General Service Medal and has travelled with the Battalion ever since. He was released from quarantine after returning from Germany. 6th November 1963
