Five sporty schoolgirls have kicked off shining careers in a traditionally all-male
Five sporty schoolgirls have kicked off shining careers in a traditionally all-male preserve.... rugby. All from Castle Hall Middle, Mirfield, they have proved they can run, kick and pass with the best of them. For the past weeks, they have been hard at work beating their boy classmates at their own game and practising for an award scheme being run at the school. The school plays a new style of rugby called new image - a non-contact sport which both sexes of all ages can play - without losing out to size or strength. The girls, from left: Sonia Kaye, Kelly Hudson, Sarah Roberts, Farrah Greig and Louise Morby, are seen accepting bronze training medals from David Spawforth (left), Kirklees and South Yorkshire rugby union development officer. 31st October 1989
