People are being given the chance to become a budding Barbara Hepworth or Henry Moore at DIY ceramic sculpture sessions at Brettons Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Raku Works, an educational company formed by Laura Barnes and Sue Goodwin and based at Rawtenstall, Lancashire, is giving specialist instruction at weekends. At the first session visitors modelled with a mixture of clay and cement. This weekend all-clay kilns will be constructed in the open air and firing of the ceramics will begin. A spokesman at the park said " No-one is ever sure what the results of a firing will be, so everyone will be on tenterhooks." The highlight of the activities will take place on the concluding weekend, October 26/27, when a large sea-serpent - built in sections by children of Birdwell School, Barnsley, will be fired and assembled. Beginning work on a lion sculpture at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, West Bretton, are Mr John Anderson, his wife Darlene and children (left to right) Grant, Stuart and Leon. 12th October 1985
