Giorgio Chinaglia, who moved to Cardiff as a young child from Italy is pictured at his fathers restaurant in Newport Road, Cardiff. Chinaglia, who plays for Swansea Town FC had fallen out with Swansea and and set to start a new soccer career in Italy - April 1966
*HE was a rascal, a rebel, a Cardiffian and iabove all iunforgettable. Yesterday, the footballing world paid tribute one of its most colourful characters, Giorgio Chinaglia, who died aged 65. Chinaglia iknown affectionately as iong Johniand as the Italian George Best iwas found dead at his home in Florida by his adopted son at 9am US eastern time on Saturday. He had suffered complications following treatment for a heart problem. Chinaglia was born in the Tuscan marble town of Carrara shortly after the end of World War II, and moved to Cardiff when he was nine as his father looked for work in the steelworks. His association with football began in a traditional way iplaying in the back lanes of Canton where he lived. © Mirrorpix
