Childrens Games: The Guardsman that fainted on parade
Childrens Games: The Guardsman that fainted on parade. 60 small boys dressed as Grenadier Guardsmen were busy square-bashing on a beautiful lawn of St. Josephs Academy, Leigh Terrace, Black Heath, London, today in preparation for their Sports Day which takes place next Saturday June 27th. Their Sports master Mr. John Taylor was giving the orders today, but at the actual show, Paul Hunter aged 12 from Upper School will give the orders and run the display. Michael Dufficy aged 9 years fainted on parade, but not an eyelid flickered, not a guardsman moved a muscle, for their Commanding Officer 12 year old Paul Hunter along with the Regimental Sergeant Major Pat Gittins aged 13 years were inspecting. But as soon as the okay was given Michael sat up with a broad grin and the guardsmen relaxed and laughed with him, for its all a part of the show and Michael would be the last guardsman to faint. The fall in a rigid position for the fainting episode came easily to Michael, for in another section of the display the guardsmen fall forward like toy soldiers. June 1953
