The hall of one of Newcastles oldest banks faces demolition. Barclays Bank have applied for permission to knock down their Grey Street banking hall and fill the space with offices. The facade of the building is to be left unchanged in Barclays latest plans. It was built by John Dpbson in 1836. But the banking hall, built some 60 years later, will go for good if permission is granted. 4th February 1973
