Young Neil Barnes has received a brand new computer - thanks to the efforts of his soldier Dads battalion. Sixteen members of the 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Volunteers, including Corporal Peter Barnes, raised more than £ 1000 for cerebral palsy sufferer Neil at their weekend camp in Great Broughton. With the proceeds they bought him a £ 500 computer and donated £ 500 to cerebral palsy charities, The lads cycled 30miles around Territorial Army centres in Guisborough, Middlesbrough and Coulby Newham to raise the cash. Then they returned to the camp and cycled to the top of Clay Bank, ran two miles up Wainstones, then ran and cycled back down to Great Broughton. 21st July 1989
