Atlantic College - St Donats Castle - Boys of 16 different nationalities sit for their first meal in the beautiful refrectory of the castle - *THE International Baccalaureate was created there, the rigid-hulled inflatable rescue boat was invented there and now Atlantic College in the Vale of Glamorgan is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Located just outside Llantwit Major, the school was founded by German educationalist Dr Kurt Hahn, creator of the Duke of Edinburgh award. Established at the height of the Cuban Missile crisis and in the aftermath of World War II, its mission was to promote peace and international understanding through education for students aged 16 to 19 an age when young people were seen to be old enough to be aware of their own nationality culture and traditions. 19th September 1962 -
