A 1921 Coventry motor cycle - a Triumph Model "H"
A 1921 Coventry motor cycle - a Triumph Model " H" - being presented on permanent loan to the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum by Mr. Ivor Davies(right) on behalf of the Triumph Engineering Company Ltd. The machine, a 550 c.c. side valve model " H" is similar to those ridden by British dispatch riders during the First World War. In all some 30, 000 were turned out by the firm for military use between 1914 and 1918. The machine has been in the possession of the Triumph company for many years and has been stored in a warehouse at the Meriden factory. Mr. Davies, the Triumph publicity manager, in handing over the machine to Mr. C. J. Scott, the museum curator, said: " We feel that quite a lot of people may be interested in the Model " H" due to its wartime connections. It is much better that a lot of people should have the chance to see it rather than the few who have had the opportunity to inspect it in the factory. I think it is a splendid arrangement.
