A pedestrian and traffic census was carried out at Canley crossing gates yesterday with a view to replacing the old footbridge with a new one or introducing wicket gates for pedestrians. A member of the City Engineers department said that there was a proposal to demolish the old footbridge because of its poor condition. The census was to help in deciding whether it should be replaced with a new bridge or wicket gates. As a check was to be made on the pedestrian flow it was decided to incorporate a traffic census at the same time.
