British comedy double act Hope and Keen carried their stage act on to the football pitch
British comedy double act Hope and Keen carried their stage act on to the football pitch at R.A.F. Gaydon, near Warwick. Mike and Albie each scored a goal in Coventry Theatres crushing 8-2 win over a team of officers from the station. The other goals came from centre-forward Stephen Smith, who is on the electrical staff at the theatre. Hope and Keen are at present appearing with Rolf Harris and Lonnie Donegan in the 1968 Birthday Show. The two Gaydson goals were scored by Roger Betts and Jimmy Clark, Said a Gaydon officer: This is the second time we have been beaten by the theatre this year. " In February, when they were captained by Jimmy Tarbuck, they beat us 7-2. Next time I think we shall have to put out a stronger team."
Our photograph shows Group Captain H. King, Commanding Officer of R.A.F. Gaydon, who refereed, with four members of the Coventry Theatre XI (left to right) Les Bennett (musical director to Lonnie Donegan), Hope and Keen, and Tony Cawley.
