On 6 February 1958, the United team known as the Busby Babes were all but wiped out when the plane carrying them home from a successful match in Belgrade crashed on take off from Munich Airport. Captain Roger Byrne, Tommy Taylor, David Pegg, Bill Whelan, Eddie Colman, Mark Jones and Geoff Bent were killed instantly and Duncan Edwards died 15 days later. Manager Matt Busby was not expected to recover but proved the doctors wrong
