WW2 London Air Raid Bomb Damage V2 Rocket Attack 1944
Members of the Fire Service and the Auxillary Fire Service along with members of the other rescue services search the smoking wreckage of a factory in the southern suburbs of London following a V2 Rocket Attack. The V2 rocket carried 2, 000 lbs of explosive, and took only minutues to reach its target. the rocket travel at speeds up to 3, 500 mph. It was feared because it came down from the stratosphere without warning - unlike the " doodlebug" V1 flying bomb, it could not be spotted, nor shot down in flight.
The majority of V2s fired at London were launched in and around the Hague in Holland
