Winston Churchills funeral cortege passes the Cenotaph in 1965. Churchill died on 25 January 1965, aged 90. For three days, his body lay in state in Westminster Hall in the House of Commons, followed by a military procession to St Pauls Cathedral with his coffinon a gun carriage and pulled by sailors of the Royal Navy. After the service, his body was taken by boat from Tower Pier to Waterloo Station, on its way to his familys anestral home in Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. In the Commons, where where he had spent over six decades, his seat was left vacant
