Crowds at the Live Aid Concert Wembley 1985
In the summer of 1985 Bob Geldof organised two huge concerts, one at Wembley Stadium London and one at the JFK Stadium in Philadelphia, to raise money for his charity Live Aid. The charity was set up to help the starving masses in Ethiopia. Practically every major star in the US and UK Rock/pop industry turned up to add their talents and support to the cause for free. The result was incredible - nearly 2 billion people watched worldwide and over 40 million pounds was raised for the charity, the profile this gave the plight of those in need in Africa was immense and it also provided a night that no-one old enough to remember will ever forget
