Bill, a retired road worker, was born in Lund Hill Row in 1898 at Number 41. Now Bill and Florence live at Number 20. They are keeping the Row - the only street in the decaying pit village of Lund Hill - alive. Hill siad: " The Coal Board are waiting for the council to find us a house and the whole place will come down. It is very sad leaving. This used to be a thriving community. There were 55 houses." The houses still standing in Lund Hill Row were condemned a year ago and the Littlewoods have been alone there for nearly a month. The Row was built 120 years ago for the miners of Lund Hill Pit. In 1857 an explosion has killed 189 men there.
