Return of the R34 airship from Atlantic flight - Entering hangar. When the German airship L33 was shot down in Essex (September 1916) the British aviation authorities and the Ministry of Defence realise that the German craft was far more advanced than the current British dirigibles. Therefore they took the craft to pieces and copied much of the German technology. The result was the R33 and R34. The R34 acheived the first east west crossing of the Atlantic and the first dual crossing. The craft is shown here after returning from the dual crossing trip
