The annual event was held at the Royal Albert Hall.
He is taking over the coveted title from three-times winner John Galliano, who is also vacating his position at Givenchy for McQueen, moving on to take the helm at Christian Dior.
At 27, McQueen is the same age as Galliano when he first won the award in 1987. There are thought to be parallels between the life and work of the two, but McQueen insists: `We re very different designers
