Cross Channel Walker 25th August 1978 U. S. Army sgt Walter C

Cross Channel Walker 25th August 1978
U.S. Army sgt Walter C. Robinson walked into the English Channel at Folkestone at 5.30am at the start of his attempt to cross to France, using his special inflatable platform shoes. The journey took him 11 hours, strong tides close to the French coast threaten to defeat him, but in the end it was a walkover.
He had already walked across the Hudson Bay and the length of the Panama Canal. He is seen here at 6am with the cliffs of Dover in the background talking to his support boat which escorted him across the busy water way.
