Vera and Gerald Weisfeld, millionaire business owners of the What Every Woman Wants

Vera and Gerald Weisfeld, millionaire business owners of the What Every Woman Wants empire, in Muslim East Mostar, Bosnia... or what is left of East Mostar after 11 months of bombardment by an alliance of Serbs and Croats.
Pictured December 1994.
Vera was determined to see for herself the results of the fund-raising efforts she had made back in Scotland, and Gerald, 55, would not allow her to travel to the war zone alone.
Before witnessing the horror of Mostar, the Weisfelds had taken delight in unloading their lorryload of love, newly-arrived at the Tasovcici refugee camp.
Vera jumped on to the back of the truck (which she had not only filled, but bought as well). She then began chucking down boxes of tinned turkey, shampoo, toothpaste, clothes and crates of childrens shoes.
The camp, run by the Duchess of Yorks charity, Children in Crisis, shelters 500 Croats, 180 of them children. The Weisfeld Foundation gave £ 10, 000 to Children in Crisis, so that a kitchen can be built at Tosovcici. Vera Weisfeld
