NEWS 28/10/2009 *** David Shepherd, the former England umpire, has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 68.
A renowned international umpire, David officiated in 172 ODI s, including 3 consecutive World Cup Finals & 92 tests between 1983 & 2005.

David Shepherd - Englands member of the 12 strong National Grid Panel of umpires for the World Cup 1996, starting nexk week in India, Pakistan & Sri Lanka - today modelled the first black coat to be worn by an umpire in two centuries of cricket.
Black has been chosen as the best neutral colour for day/night matches with the players wearing coloured clothing and using a white ball.
