Edwardian elegance: well turned-out retired engine driver Herbert Turner, 78, complements the handsome lines of ex-Metropolitan Railway E class 0-4-4 tank engine No. L46, built in 1901. During the tour of " Metroland" on September 23, 1957, Mr Turner also chats with driver Alfred Cornish. Sister engine No. L44 (Metropolitan No. 1) is preserved at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, Quainton Road. The fifty year old steam train the L46 took a party of train enthusiasts on a trip around the inner circle on the London underground.
Pictured is retired steam train driver Herbert Turner, aged 78, who is one of the party talking with the driver Alfred Cornish.
