May Day celebrations took on an international flavour at the Earlsdon Methodist Church
May Day celebrations took on an international flavour at the Earlsdon Methodist Church Hall, Coventry. Indian, West Indian, Pakistani, Irish and English children took part in an afternoon of dancing and music. They, together with parents and church members, watched Elizabeth Montague of Broad Lane, crowned May Queen by the Lady Mayoress, Mrs. Ada Burdett. Children of the churchs Sunday school danced around a multi-streamered Maypole. A display of traditional Irish dancing was given by pupils, all in Irish costume, of the Connelly School of Dancing. For the first time, the annual event included a display of Asian dancing performed by pupils of John Gulson School. The event was organised by the Churchs Ladies Guild.
