This Blackburn Kangaroo biplane - a former WW1 bomber - which was purchased by explorer Captain Wilkins in 1919, later Sir Hubert Wilkins, to compete in an air race sponsored by the Australian Government.
A prize of £ 10, 000 was being offered for the first All-Australian crew to fly from England to Australia. Piloted by Lieutenants Val Rendle and D R Williams, with Wilkins as navigator and Lieutenant Potts the engineer, the aircraft left Hounslow in West London on 21st November 1919 but suffered a serious oil leak on 8th December and returned to Suda Bay, Crete where the flight was abandoned.
