Amelia Earhart became the first women to complete a solo flight across the North Atlantic
Amelia Earhart became the first women to complete a solo flight across the North Atlantic when she and her Lockheed Vega completed the journey on 21nd May 1932.
She left Harbour Grace, Newfoundland on 20 May, the fifth anniversary of Charles LindberghOs first transatlantic solo flight. Her flight was nearly disastrous as she encountered severe storms coupled with problems with the aircraft. She was bound for Paris, but with fuel running low she instead landed in a meadow near Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
SheOs pictured at Hanworth aerodrome, West London after arriving from Londonderry in De Havilland Puss Moth chartered by Paramount News May 1932.
In 1937 she disappeared in mysterious circumstances while making an attempt on flight across the Pacific.
