Nutty, the grey squirrel pictured here used to live in the woods. But not any more
Nutty, the grey squirrel pictured here used to live in the woods. But not any more. A couple of months ago he wandered into a village store, took a quick look at the sackful of nuts and said to himself: " Nutty, my boy, why grope round for grub among the leaves in the woods? Use you nut. Settle down here." And he did too; He built himself a home under the roof of the store, which is at Kennford, near Exeter, Devon. He just comes down for self-service meals. All the customers love Nutty. So does shopkeeper Mrs. Dorcas Bayley. But sometimes when he gets a bit too frisky round the store, Mrs. Bayley brings her soft broom and gently but firmly sweeps him through the door. Nutty thinks this is great fun. He just settles down outside and when the next customer arrives, in he darts again. April 1958
