Lonely Cyril the Lighthouse Tomcat gets his bride by Helicopter
Lonely Cyril the Lighthouse Tomcat gets his bride by Helicopter. Cyril the lighthouse cat was restless. Four bachelor months at South Bishop, in St. Georges channel, were beginning to tell. Night after night he paced the lighthouse tower, sanding out his mating call across the six miles of sea which separates the lighthouse from the Welsh mainland. Lighthouse keepers Dermot Cronin, George Doyle and Bob Collis - bachelors themselves - decided that the time for action had come. Out went ans Os to the Fleet Air Arm base at Brawdy, Pembrokeshire. The station told the RSPCA and chief Inspector Archie Smith set out to find Cyril a bride. He found one in a village post office. Later snug in wicker basket, she was winched 50 ft. down to the lighthouse by a helicopter on its weekly mail run. Said a spokesman at Brawdy: " We could not ignore such an appeal for help".
