Capt Charles A Lindberghs Spirit of St Louis, a Ryan NYP single-engine monoplane arrives at Croydon on 30th May 1927 from Paris via Brussels, where he was met by the largest crowd ever gathered at an airport to meet an incoming flight. On the 20 and 21 May 1927 Lindbergh made the first solo non-stop crossing of the North Atlantic from Long Island, New York to Paris (Le Bourget) in 33 hours, 39 minutes. He covered a distance of 3, 590 miles to win a prize of $25, 000. This aircraft is exhibited in the Smithsonian Institution, National Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC.
