" Olympic games" In wheel chairs. Flags of twelve nations fluttered from masts over the lawns of stoke Mandeville Hospital today at the " Olympic Games" for two hundred competitors in wheel chairs. The men and women from all over Europe, Israel and Canada, all suffering from spinal paralysis, competed in Netball, Archery, Snooker, Table Tennis, throwing the Javelin and Swimming. The games were the idea of Dr. Ludwig Guttman, who opened the national spinal injuries centre, at Stoke Mandeville in 1944..
