The Hon. Charles Rolls, holder of Royal Aero Club Certificate No.2, seen here flying his French built Wright bi-plane during the Bournemouth Aviation Week in July 1910. He was killed on 12 July while taking part in a competition for the slowest lap; part of the aircrafts tail-plane collapsed and he crashed from just 20 feet. On 2 June 1910 Rolls completed the first return flight across the English Channel, dropping a letter addressed to the Aero Club de France before he flew back to England.
