World War II: Women. Six hundred Polish women have arrived in this country having spent much of their time in Russia, Persia, and Africa after escaping from Poland to join the WaF. Mothers and daughters together are all keen to serve in this country. Some have spent years in Russia, in Siberia, where they were cutting wood until they were released. Many have harrowing tales to tell and many have fathers and husbands to find in this country or serving with Polish Forces. One Polish airman came to this seaside resort on the off chance and found his wife and daughter whom he had not seen since he left Poland when it was over run by the Germans. Many of them have to be taught Polish, being peasants they have to be taught to read and write although they can speak the language. Few can speak English. A Blackboard and a model with English and Polish instructions are used to get these women to understand the elementary commands such as turning etc. Despite being in this country such a short time they are picking up their life in the WaF quickly.
