58 year old Charlie Roberts of Eastbourne, Sussex is proud of his pumpkin growing prowess. He challenges any amateur gardener to better his record of over 500lbs weight of pumpkins grown from 6 plants. He was helped to grow this weight by a freak second crop, the first normal crop of 11 pumpkins from his 6 plants weighted in at 400lbs. When he returned from a fortnights holiday, the second crop had started growing due to the Indian summer. Early in November he cut 8 more pumpkins which brought the total to over 500lbs - and Charlie reckons a record. November 1969 Z10872-001
