Fashion 1960s. The taming of teddy. It seems that the Wizard of Wimbledon fashions, the Terrible Teddy Tinling, has finally been tamed. Colonel Tinling, who has been well known in the best-dressed tennis circles since he first popped Goregous Gussie Moran into a pair of lace bloomers about 19 years ago, is now turning somewhat " trade" as can be seen from the white-clad tennis trio pictured here on Friday (21-6-68). Leaving behind him such former flights of fancy as see-through plastic midriffs, red tights and shocking-pink panties, Colonel Tinling has concentrated this season on the kind of nice little tennis frocks that could offend no one. After all, the skirt worn by Italys Lea Pericoli (left), the strip of computer data decorating British Number 1 Ann Joness dress (center), and the wrap-over that Brazils Maria Bueno is wearing (right) are not destined to ruin anyones overarm stroke. Perhaps the time has come in this era of His and Hers fashions for Colonel Tinling, an extremely fancy dresser himself, to consider entering the menswear field. How about some interesting outfits for Rod Laver or Ken Rosewall?. June 1968 P017571
